My Most Anticipated Upcoming Games of 2014

[Update!]                                                                                                                                                    Well, I had to revise my list! Previously I had The Order 1886 as my number 4 spot, but that game was recently pushed to 2015, meaning it is no longer an upcoming game of 2014, it’s been swapped out!                                                                                              [Update]

Before I delve too far into my post here, I want to take a quick second to thank you all.  I really had no idea what to expect when writing my first blog and was planning to be gratified if even one person read it.  The amount of support it got left me flabbergasted, in a good way.  So thank you all for that.  I’d also request that you leave a comment down below, letting me know your personal most anticipated titles of 2014.

The year of 2014 is shaping up to be a pretty good year for gaming. There’s a lot to look forward to, and I thought I’d share my personal most anticipated games with you. I think I’m go gonna with a top 5 list format for the sake of simplicity.  So let’s kick things off with number 5!

5.  Alien Isolation

Alien Isolation

Okay let’s be honest for a second here.  Aliens Colonial Marines, despite all it’s potential, was a big disappointment.  So that begs the question, why is this game on my top five most anticipated list? Well it’s being developed by a different team of developers for one.  Meaning that the group of people responsible for Colonial Marines aren’t actually involved this time.  Secondly, the game has a much stronger horror vibe to it, rather than an action shooter type of style. Hopefully this means the game will be a lot more unique.  I’m tentitive about this one, but I’m going to remain optimisitc.  Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.

4. Deep Down

Deep Down

A Free to Play game in my top five upcoming games?  This is madness!  Well, I’m actually quite fond of F2P games, at least the F2P games that get it right!  Deep Down looks like a quality game through and through, boasting AAA graphics and exciting looking gameplay, despite it being F2P.  Hopefully Deep Down will continue to be supported and expand even after it’s release.   The style and theme have got me excited, let’s just hope they can strike a good fair a balance when it comes to the F2P elements.

“Nope, no dragons down here!”

3. Destiny

It’s been a bit of bumpy ride with Destiny….remember when this game was supposed to come out last year? Despite all the delays, it seems like Destiny is well worth the wait.  Bungie has been working on this game for quite some time, and they boast a scale previously unheard of in gaming.  The game seems almost like a Halo Warframe mix, and that’s quite alright with me!  They’ve got a pretty great track record as well, and they seem very devoted to this new franchise.  Personally I can’t wait to explore this new universe Bungie has conjured up.  Let’s just hope the gameplay isn’t overly familiar or generic.  But let’s be honest, the concept art speaks for itself.

2. Dragon Age Inquisition

Dragon Age Inquisition

Okay, it’s confession time.  I haven’t played any of the other Dragon Age games.   In fact, I’m actually relatively new to the fantasy RPG genre.  But I’ve been sore for a good RPG ever since Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, and this game has my attention.  The game is supposed to be a lot more open and detailed than the previous titles, with massive vistas and beautiful landscapes.   I’m honestly still a bit confused about whether this game is officially open world, or linear with really big levels.   Regardless, the story, art-style, and graphics have got me interested and hopeful.

1. Batman Arkham Knight

Batman Arkham Knight

I’m excited for every game on this list, that’s the point of the list!  But for every game I have my reservations as well.  Not so much Arkham Knight.  Every little tidbit of information regarding this game has only got me more hyped and more hopeful. Rocksteady(Arkham Asylum & Arkham City) have yet to do wrong.  What’s more, is they seem genuinely devoted to finishing their Batman trilogy with a bang.   Every aspect of this game seems to be bigger and better than the previous installments, what more can ask for in a sequel?   Not mention the story sounds absolutely amazing this time around.  What does Scarecrow have planned for Gotham? How is Batman gonna stack against the united effort of all his foes?  Who is the Arkham Knight anyway?  And what are his motives?

So that’s my little list!  Again I encourage you, let me know in the comments what your most anticipated games are?  Is your list similar to mine or totally different?

  1. This brings me to the question. What are your thoughts about the up and coming Evolve? 4 guys team up against 1 monster… the monster is actually player controlled. :O

    • You know, I’ve got be honest, I’m probably not gonna pick that one up. I’m not the biggest fan of multiplayer only games, certainly not a four person co-op only game. It seems like it’s the type of game where cooperation is really important, like it won’t be easy to just play with randoms. That said, I don’t think I have any buds who are planning on picking this up, and I certainly wouldn’t buy it if I didn’t know anyone else who was. Also to be brutally honest, I thought the game seemed a little low on content….like all I’ve heard about is one 4 v 1 gamemode and two monsters so far, I’m not convinced $60s of content is packed in there. It’ll probably be a great game, just not my style. Also, I gotta change this up don’t I? 1886 doesn’t come out 2014 anymore! Thanks for the comment! How about you by the way? Will you pick it up? I’d like to see your top five!

      • Yea I was curious because that game seem like it looks great overall… but as far as the gameplay factor it seems on the low end of content factor. I feel that they can do more with the idea and hopefully they do… even if they gotta mash up a little single player to get the story going or something. As for 1886… thats looking amazing… i really can’t wait for that game… I will def be doing a top five by tomorrow night when i’m off work. 🙂
